Some of the Greatest Travel and Adventure Stories For Long Car Journeys.
Possibly one of the oldest travel accounts published is Travels, by Marco Polo, circa 1278. Dictated to a scribe whom he shared a cell with in Genoa, the book tells us of Polo's overland journey across Asia. There is little peril described, but much of the riches and customs of the cultures he came across. Travels has been commented on as "the founding adventure book of the modern world".
On a slightly more modern and colder note, My Life as an Explorer by Roald Amundsen (1927) is a first-hand account of the travelling exploits of the man who beat Scott to the South Pole, and was the first to sail the Northwest Passage.
Someone who lived with a different culture is Heinrich Harrer. Seven Years in Tibet describes how he escaped from a prisoner-of-war camp in India and headed for the mountains of Tibet. He ended up in Lhasa, and there became friends with the young Dalai Lama. The book was made into a film many years later, with Brad Pitt in the title role.
Fiction has also given us some excellent travel stories. Probably the best known is Around the World in 80 Days, by Jules Verne. This classic novel tells us of the English gentleman Phileas Fogg and Passepartout, his valet. Phileas has taken on a bet from the Reform Club that he can travel from the Club, around the globe and back to the Club in 80 days. Travelling through Egypt, India, Hong Kong, America and Ireland, will they make it back in time to win the bet?
Another fictional, and this time rather fantastical, travel account is The Lost World by the author of Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The novel explores a plateau of South America where dinosaurs still roam, and the humans and ape-men that share the island with them. It centres on a scientist who wishes to prove the existence of the plateau, and puts his own life in peril by doing so.
Treasure Island is a novel with a more seafaring flavour, written by Robert Louis Stevenson. Narrated by cabin boy Jim Hawkins, the novel explores the world of pirates on the sea in a voyage to the Caribbean for buried treasure and is full of swashbuckling and mystery. Best 2012 Car for the Over 50
It would be wrong to suggest that any one particular car suits the needs of a person over the age of fifty. As with all other age-groups, the ideal car for the over-fifties will depend on a number of different factors including budget, personal preference and practical requirements. However, this is a time of life when people want to enjoy the fruits of their labour. A car can be a statement of a person's success and financial achievement; it is therefore essential that such a car exudes class and style. The Ford Mondeo 1.6 TDCi Zetec is as stylish as it is powerful, and it has been turning heads throughout 2012.
The 1.6 litre engine strikes the perfect balance between fuel-efficiency and acceleration. Unless the driver enjoys seriously powerful acceleration, this car will be more than adequate. This version of Ford’s Mondeo range looks incredible, and it performs excellently on both the motorway and the inner-city roads of the UK. The Mondeo's main strength is its fantastic handling; an attribute made possible by the car's perfectly engineered suspension. This is easily the largest Mondeo ever, yet its agility makes the car a dream to drive in almost any driving environment.
The average over-fifty will probably be looking for a drive that is comfortable, smooth and quiet, and the Mondeo delivers in all areas. Despite the car's bulk, noise from the wind and the road is kept to a minimum. The engine provides the Mondeo's most refined performance ever, and even the 2.0 litre versions are quiet and discreet. Ergonomically designed in-car controls ensure that drivers are not stretching to operate various facilities and functions. The gear-stick is also perfectly placed to allow for seamless gear changes.
The Mondeo's interior offers all of the space and luxury that has historically been reserved for much more expensive cars. The front driver and passenger seats are fully adjustable, and they cater for almost all driving styles. Leather-effect finishes to the doors and the dashboard ensure that the car's premium look is visible throughout. The new Mondeo feels substantial and protective, yet small children may struggle to see out of the relatively high windows. The car's boot is easily big enough for a large family's holiday luggage.
One of the most impressive aspects of the Mondeo is the attention to detail in terms of technology. This is a car which doesn't skimp on gadgetry, and owners can expect a driving experience to rival that found in a top-of-the-range Mercedes. Every model is fitted with the latest traction-control technology; a system that greatly improves passenger comfort on long and winding roads. Cruise-control is also fitted as standard, and the entire system is operated by touch-button controls on the steering wheel. Ford's award-winning multimedia system allows drivers to connect mobile phones through a bluetooth system. Hands-free calling, MP3 compatibility and optional satellite navigation systems are built in, and they can all be operated via a voice-control system or simple one-touch controls. The Ford Mondeo has been one of the UK's most loved cars for two decades, and it delivers everything most over-fifties look for in a car.

2011 Ferrari 458 Italia
The 458 Italia is the latest incarnation of the mid-rear engined berlinetta. The new model is a synthesis of style, creative flair, passion and cutting-edge technology, characteristics for which Italy as a nation is well-known. For this reason Ferrari chose to add the name of its homeland to the traditional figure representing the displacement and number of cylinders. A two-seater berlinetta, the Ferrari 458 Italia, as is now traditional for all Ferrari’s road-going cars, benefits hugely from the company’s Formula 1 experience. This is particularly evident in the speed and precision with which the car responds to driver inputs and in the attention focused on reducing internal friction in the engine for lower fuel consumption than the F430, despite the fact that both overall displacement and power have increased. Once again input from Michael Schumacher - who was involved from the very start of the 458 Italia project - played an invaluable part.

AmericanMuscle & Friends Raise $9,000+ for Charity

From the beginning the American Muscle Car Show was set to be more than just a show. Company founders, backed by enthusiastic employees, pushed to give something back to the men and women who have sacrificed so much for our freedom. The initial goal was to raise $5,000 to Homes for Our Troops, a charity that buys or builds homes for disabled veterans. After two previous donations, the team at AM decided to recruit its customers, vendors, families and friends to join the cause and give to this noble charity at the show.
With American Muscle pledging to donate 100 percent of all show proceeds, the effort was fueled by the AM Girls selling raffle tickets for some seriously sweet parts donated by many top Mustang performance brands like SCT, Roush, Eibach, dba, Hawk, Pypes Exhaust, BBK, Maximum Motorsports, aFe, MagnaFlow, Motive, Edelbrock, PA Performance, H&R Springs and more. Also adding to that total were t-Shirt and food sales, plus personal contributions from AM employees.
At the end of the day, with all donations counted, American Muscle wrote a check for $8015 to Homes for our Troops. Joining American Muscle in supporting this great cause, the members of the Garden State Region Mustang Club voted unanimously to give a generous donation of $850 to the charity. Another donation of $500 was received from an anonymous American Muscle supplier bringing the total joint donation to $9,365.
Accepting on behalf of the charity were Frank and Karen McKee of Springfield, PA. After receiving the very large check, Mr. McKee expressed sincere appreciation saying he was humbled by the donation. Personally, I think we’re more humbled by our troops.

2009 BMW 7 Series
The new 2009 BMW 7 Series does away with some of the more controversial features in the name of a cleaner, more streamlined design. The total package is more appealing to the eye, and speaks "German luxury" rather than "controversy." The upgrades to the 2009 BMW 7 Series do not stop at the surface, though. The top of the line 750i and 750Li models get a revised version of the excellent BMW V8 from the German sports car company's X6 Series. New also to the 2009 7 Series is an option for the excellent twin turbo inline 6 motor found in the 335i and 535i BMW models. This well-engineered engine offers decent fuel economy for a large German luxury car, while still providing great performance with upwards of 300 horsepower on tap.
Those luxury car types who passed on the last generation of BMW 7 Series luxury sedans may want to give the 2009 7 Series another look. Inside is a host of new technology, including a night vision system featuring what BMW calls pedestrian recognition technology, whatever that means. Some of the headaches of previous iDrive Navigation/Infotainment systems are supposed to have been worked out as well. Look for the 740i and 750i models at the end of 2008 coming as 2009 BMW models. The 12-cylinder 760Li flagship model will return later in 2009, as well.

Personalize Your Pony and Avoid Stock 'Stangs
There are many reasons Mustangs are famous. It's the original pony car, a two-time winner of Motor Trend Car of the Year, has remained in production for more than four decades, etc, etc, etc. But what has really sustained this fine example of American automotive design and engineering is how endlessly modifiable these cars are. Each individual Mustang owner can transform their car exactly the way they want it, making it as fast, as powerful, as sleek or as sinister as they want. And since AmericanMuscle is the #1 aftermarket Mustang parts dealer on the Internet, it should be obvious where most of these owners go when they want the highest quality products at the best prices.
Did we mention that Mustang owners thrive on speed? Did we even have to mention it? AmericanMuscle knows this, and to make sure you can squeeze every last pony out of that Mustang engine, we offer a number of different Mustang superchargers that are the absolute last word in horsepower and torque. And when we say that, we mean you can generally look to add over 100 HP and around 65 ft-lbs. of torque with these superchargers. These bad boys don't mess around when it comes to getting the ponies out from under the hood and onto the road.
So, now that you've added all those ponies, you're going to need to make sure you're not going to be losing any because of drag or wind resistance. Which means that a Mustang spoiler could be right up your alley. In addition to those previously mentioned benefits, spoilers help to increase fuel efficiency and will give any Mustang an aggressive look that tells people to keep their distance or else you might blow their doors in.
On the few occasions that you're going slow enough for people to see your Mustang, they're more than likely going to be seeing your front end first. And one of the most noticeable customizations you can make to your front end is a new Mustang grille. We stock both upper and lower grilles for Mustangs, sleek mesh grilles or even billet grilles that will shine bright for as long as you own your Mustang.
AmericanMuscle also offers a wide variety of Mustang decals. You're proud of your car and you're proud that you've turned it into something that you can truly call original and your very own, so why not show off your trophy? Bumper inserts are a simple way to do this, as are Lemans stripes and rocker strips. Or maybe you'd even like to sport an AmericanMuscle decal and let everybody know where you got all this great stuff to add to your Pony? Just a suggestion.

A year after the unveiling of the GranTurismo, Maserati will be back at the Geneva International Motorshow with yet another world premiere, the GranTurismo S. 2009 BMW M3 Race Version
BMW presented the racing version of the new BMW M3 at the Chicago Auto Show. Powered by a 485 bhp eight cylinder engine, this impressive race car has been designed to compete in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) beginning in 2009. The car is based on the fourth generation of the BMW M3, the high-performance sports car produced by BMW M GmbH. Those engine blocks, cast in BMW's light alloy foundry in Landshut - the very source of BMW's Formula One castings - selected for race duty need to withstand even more power: the BMW P65 race engine delivers 485 bhp. The race version of the BMW M3 is wider and significantly lighter than its production equivalent, enabling it to perfectly transmit the power of its V8 to the track. Widespread use of carbon-reinforced plastic (CRP) provides proof of substantial weight reduction. As with the production version, the race car's roof is manufactured from this high-tech material.
